3 Ways to Prep Your Home for Listing Photos
Whether you are prepping to sell or simply want to capture your space at its best, getting your home camera ready is an art. We work with clients all the time who have a short window of time to uplevel their space for listing photos, so we know all the small shortcuts (or #heydayhacks as we call them).
The Heyday Homes expert team has a playbook and network of collaborators honed through years of real estate and design experience. Let’s dive into some tips & tricks with our friend and collaborator, Sarah Parisi of The Clutter Curator, to turn your space into a beautiful haven, perfect for photos & houseguest ready.
Declutter and Organize: The Clutter Curator explains how these 5 tiny steps can help you become a tidy person. First, never leave a room empty handed. Scan the room before you leave: your coffee mug in the office, the book in the sunroom; they don’t belong. Grab one and return it to its home. Taking this tiny step will eliminate aclutter pile-up.
Those trouble areas that we wake up at 3am thinking about – the laundry room, the food storage cabinet, the junk drawer in the foyer, the one coffee ring on the end table – create a realistic to-do list and cross the tasks off as you go!
Create a weekly reset for your home, and stick with it! Starting a hectic week in a clean and tidy home will allow for a routine, and give you time to stick with it. By the time your photos come around, you will feel much more confident that you can make your space gleam!Light the Light in: Natural light is your best friend when it comes to photographing your home. Pull back those curtains, open the blinds, and let the sunshine flood in. Lacking natural light? Turn on every light in the room, even the lamps! Bright rooms create an inviting atmosphere and appear larger in photos.
Create Inviting Spaces: Arrange furniture, decor and plants into cozy conversation areas, but be sure to avoid clutter! The Clutter Curator explains how to declutter and go green: “A key aspect of sustainable organization is practicing mindful consumption. Before making a purchase, ask yourself if you truly need the item and if it aligns with your values. Choose quality over quantity, investing in well-made products that will stand the test of time.” Dismiss the chaos of clutter and use greenery as a sustainable and simple way to add life into an inviting space.
Remember, the goal is to capture the essence of your home – warm, inviting and filled with character - but also allow the potential new homeowner to see themselves seamlessly living in the space. By following these tips by The Clutter Curator, you will be able to capture a home that is not only beautiful in photos, but also a joy to live in while you’re there. Happy prepping!
