Andersonville Buyer: Meet Emily

Why did you choose this neighborhood?

I was interested in the Andersonville / Uptown / Edgewater area for a few reasons. Many of my friends had moved to the area. The neighborhoods each have a really great personality and also genuinely feel like a community. Almost like small towns in the middle of a huge city! Plus it's a more cost-friendly option if you want to stay close to the lake - the lakeside running path is one of my favorite parts of Chicago.

What is your new favorite neighborhood spot?

Hopleaf has a great back patio, it's been a fantastic option for meeting friends safely outside. Colombie coffee is also becoming a daily pilgrimage.

How would you describe your style?

I think my style is a mix between midcentury modern and "maximalist" I like bold colors and to showcase lots of books, records, art, photos, Halloween decorations, etc.

How did you decide on this place?

I think the primary reason I chose this place was its location - it sits on the border of two great neighborhoods (Uptown and Andersonville). I'm also just off of Clark so it's a quick walk to shops and restaurants.

Do you plan to do any other updates on your place?

One of the wonderful things about this place was that it needed nothing - just paint. That said, I am considering updates to the bathroom.

Favorite room in the house?

My deck area. Originally outside space wasn't very high on my "must-have" list, now I cannot imagine what life would be like without it.

What was the best part about working with Meg?

Meg is super friendly and fun. It felt like I was working with an old friend! More importantly, she coached me through the entire process. I'm single, a first time home buyer, and was buying at the beginning of the pandemic. I felt like had no clue what I was doing, it was as if I had skipped the class in "adulting 101" that covered home buying.
